Diablo 4 Open Beta Review – Worth Playing?

I’ve had a chance to play Diablo 4 after waiting for a very long time. The open beta started on March 24, 2023 allow you to try all five of the game’s classes – Barbarian, Rogue, Sorcerer, Necromancer, Druid, levelling up to 25, and collect beta goodies.

Every new Diablo brings with it fresh systems, modifications, and updates, and Diablo 4 is no exception. The forthcoming entry has a ton of new features and other methods of doing things. One of the changes is the types of weapons that can be equipped by different classes; however, it is unclear how to switch between the various types of weapons. If the procedure has you baffled, continue reading as we examine how it all operates.

Where is the key to Switch Weapon Type?

Classes like the Barbarian in Diablo 4 has many weapon slots in their inventory where they can equip various weapon kinds. I played the Open Beta as a Barbarian and I was not able to find a special key to switch from my two-handed hammer to duel wield weapon. Instead, I found out that utilizing a basic skill (Lunging Strike to Frenzy) that supports the specific weapon type actually automatically switch out my character’s weapons. It is so cool now that changing weapon type in Diablo 4 largely automatic depending on the skills you employ!

With the weapons being swapped out based on the skill being used, I found myself suddenly hitting like a wet noodle when my stronger hammer weapon gets switched for a common mace. Luckily, it’s very easy to reset and re-calibrate your skills so you can focus on skills for your best weapons until you find upgrades for your other weapons.

Skill Tree

The skill tree functions as a cross between a Diablo 2 and a Diablo 3 tree. In Diablo 3, you merely acquire particular abilities at particular levels. A level 30 Barbarian was required in order to obtain a WhirlWind. You could acquire “Runes” for skills at certain levels, which altered how they functioned. You had no control over it; that was just how things were. Additionally, there were passives, where you had to pick passive benefits. In Diablo 2, you had a skill tree with branches where you had to invest points to gain access to a skill. You could invest some points in a skill to increase its stats or damage. Additionally, you had other active skills that would gradually increase their stats or damage. In order to use one main damage skill, it would not be unusual to max out three or more skills.

I had a great time using the  hybrid of these two methods in Diablo 4. You receive 1 skill point for every degree you reach. You can choose from your class’s fundamental damage abilities at level 2. The mainstay of the design is whirlwind and I had been using this skill the most in the early levels of the Barbarian. You should invest your time casting in lots of enemies due to Enhanced Whirlwind in order to keep your Fury alive. You won’t be able to maintain your fury against bosses, so you’ll have to use your basic ability to hit your target.

Map of Adventure

Exploring the original snowy, mountainous zone in the Diablo 4 beta was one of the aspects of the game I most liked. There are many intriguing things to find there, including side quests, world bosses, and dungeons. It’s one area of the game that feels like a fairly significant improvement over previous games.

I think the initial zone we encounter in the beta probably only accounts for a fifth or sixth of the total landmass. I believe there are a total of five different zones here, and the one we just played might be the tiniest of them all. Which, in my opinion, is quite excellent considering how big it felt in the beta.

I personally find playing Diablo 4 without a map display is so strange. Advanced and some casual players can easily traverse the world by using map overlays rather than pausing the game to open the larger map or flitting their eyes back and forth between the minimap and the center of the screen. A map overlay like in Diablo 2 Resurrected would be fantastic.

How Multiplayer work in Diablo 4?

Like previous iterations of Diablo, Diablo 4 promotes multiplayer gaming. Even while you’re out exploring or finishing world events, players will occasionally appear. You can immediately invite them or add them as a friend so you can gather afterward.

Even the most overwhelming demon armies become merely a diversion thanks to each class’ ability to synergize with one another. The worst beta bosses will fall to a party with a well-equipped Barbarian and a weak Sorcerer.

Final Thoughts of the Beta

The Diablo 4 beta had ended I hope you had the opportunity to play the game’s first act and all five character classes with friends.

Players who reach level 20 with just one character, for instance, will get the cosmetic object known as the Beta Wolf Pack as well as the nicknames Initial Casualty and Early Voyager. These can then be utilized in Diablo 4’s full edition.

In comparison to Diablo 3, I think the game’s darker, more realistic tone was the correct choice. This time around, the focus is more on the narrative, and the brief narrative hints provided in the Diablo 4 beta convinced me that Lilith was a dangerous foe. There was a ton of content in the Diablo 4 beta to explore and I can’t wait for the game’s full release this June.
